A Call to Prayer, Fasting, and Vigilance
In his recent message to the faithful, Bishop Burbidge joins the Virginia Catholic Conference (VCC) in encouraging all Catholics to pray, fast, and form their consciences as we prepare for this year’s important elections. Several proposed amendments to the Virginia Constitution are currently under consideration by the General Assembly. One of these proposals would permit abortion at any stage of pregnancy, removing existing safeguards for mothers and their unborn children.
The Virginia Catholic Conference (VCC) has provided helpful, nonpartisan resources to help Catholics understand these proposals and the moral issues at stake:
Proposed Constitutional Amendments: Be Vigilant! – Explains each amendment and its potential impact.
Candidate Comparisons – Summarizes candidates’ positions on key issues affecting life, family, and the common good.
We encourage all parishioners to review these materials prayerfully, stay informed, and participate in civic life with faith-formed consciences.
As Bishop Burbidge reminds us:
“With so much at stake, we must prepare to engage in this year’s critical voting decisions – through conscience formation, prayer and fasting. United in the Eucharist, let us pray for one another and join together as active participants in promoting the common good.”
